Ecological literacy unit activity lesson plan first grade

What’s Up?

INQUIRY/FOCUSING QUESTIONS:

What is that coming out of the ground?

Are these plants the same or are they different from the plants that were growing here last fall?

TOPIC:

Flowers, a sign of spring

PROCEDURES:

Have the students follow the teacher to the grow boxes on the Kindergarten playground.

Point out the new growth in the boxes.

Ask the students why some of the plants are green and some are brown.

Students observe the different plants.

Students draw what they see.

MATERIALS:

Kindergarten playground

Clipboard

Paper

Crayons or markers

CULTURAL HERITAGE CONNECTIONS:

Community members (donation of tulip bulbs)

Town Highway Dept. (dirt)

Success by six 9 grow boxes
