INQUIRY/FOCUSING QUESTIONS:

We are taking a walk with our Kindergarten class outside to see the bird in its nest. Where do you think it gets its food? How do you think it builds its nest?

TOPIC:

Learning that the bird in the nest is dependent upon the worms that live under foot as well as the grass and straw to build its nest.

PROCEDURES:

Have the students follow the teacher around the Kindergarten Playground discussing what we see.

Watch the bird feeding its young worms and bugs.

Observe bugs and worms in the lawn.

Observe the grass on the lawn and stocks from old plants.

Have students draw three things they found that birds might need to live.

MATERIALS:

Kindergarten playground

Grass and lawn

Flowers and plants from grow boxes

Worms crawling in the yard.

Bird in a nest.

Clipboard

Paper

Crayons or markers.

CULTURAL HERITAGE CONNECTIONS:

Grow boxes constructed by success by six community group

Seeds donated by parents

Dirt in boxes from Highway Dept.
